[ROVERNET - UK] Rover P6 / asbestos

Rudiger,
You will find asbestos up to (at least) 1970
sandwiched between the carburettor heat shield
aluminum pieces and the same again between the
generator/dynamo pieces. The asbestos is the heat
protection from the manifold. The material is in
woven cloth form and pressed between 2 pieces of
aluminum riveted together.

The concern about asbestos has often been the stringy
stuff sprayed as condensation barriers on the
deckheads and bulkheads of older ships. Asbestos
sheets were pressed and used as building roofs (in the
UK for one place). Any poor worker using a saw to cut
that stuff without a breathing mask would be at risk.

The Rover was limited to the aluminum heat Shields and
early brake pads.
