[ROVERNET - UK] P6 2200 - inertia reel seatbelts

I just installed inertia reel belts in my 1968 2000 TC; the belts came from
Klippan in Australia, thanks to a tip from Mike Shaddick. But the reel
cannot simply be bolted directly to the original hardpoint at the bottom of
the center pillar. The Klippan reels have an planarity requirement and if
they are not in plane, they lock up. Also there isn't sufficient space
between the pillar and the side of the seat to accommodate the reel without
modifying the seat. I was lucky enough to get a NOS seat squab from a
slightly later model P6 that was factory modified to allow the reel to fit.
But I only could find one seat so must change the other one myself.

To my knowledge, no P6 Rovers were imported into the US with inertia reel
belts. But they should be readily available in Australia, and certainly are
in the UK, where I got the NOS seat. BTW you also need to construct an
adapter to fit the reel to the Rover hard point. The adapter is nothing
more than a short steel plate with two holes, one for the reel and the other
for the hard point. It is a bit of work to get these things in place but
well worth it.

Tom
