[ROVERNET - UK] Battery in Boot?

Hi Tom,
I have a RHD export '68 TC with a factory fitted boot battery.  There is 
no evidence that there was ever a battery under the bonnet.  I have 
asked about this before and no one seems to have any info on why this 
car was so equipped.  Looks neat and helps the weight distribution.
