[ROVERNET - UK] more on 3500s AED fuel shut off valve

If you install a manual choke, is it just to keep the valve closed? I'm 
not sure how the AED is supposed to function, but if the engine only 
runs now with the valve closed, when would it be beneficial to control 
the valve manually  from inside?
