Hi Peter,
  If you want to prepare for the replacement there are things you can
do.

If you are replacing the main windscreen seal then you will need to
remove the stainless steel strips around the windscreen by drilling out
the rivets (this is the hardest bit of the entire job).  Also

1. Remove the windscreen valance.
2. Check for rust all the way around the screen, it's not common but it
does happen.
3. Remove the lower clamps and clean up the lower channel in which the
windscreen sits, ready for new rubber.  It can take some effort gouging
it out of the channel.
4. If you want pop the windscreen out, remove the lower seal and clean
everything up.  Check for rust.
5. Pop the windscreen back in, clamp it and wait for the professional.
