[ROVERNET - UK] Clickety Clat

I will do a thorough check next week some time using all this input.  I have
done this job many times with no problem.  One suspect difference between
this motor and all the others is that the pistons do not seem to be Rover
pistons.  They have combustion chambers in the crowns, but very shallow
ones.  They are 90mm in dia. (standard Rover pistons are 85mm or so).  These
pistons do not have the recess at "noon and 6 o'clock" (so to speak).  I
would imagine if the pistons are even lightly touching the valves, there
would be immediate valve stem damage.  This engine was in a parts car I
purchased.  There was a bill for over $4,000.00 for an engine rebuild.  The
car does have good power, just need to figure out the valve ticking.
Ron, I checked the upper tensioner today as I thought of that as well.  It 
was properly released, so I can rule that out!
