Subject: [ROVERNET - UK] Over - heating

In my opinion 93 C is a high temperature for a normal use, but, often, these
cars work with a temperature which is in the middle of the red on the inside
thermometer.

I'll tell you what I did, then, if it's not enough, try something else,
there are another solutions.

Now, I wanted to lower the temperature of the cooling water in my Rover 2000
TC.
In Italy, in the seventies, the importer, Bepi Koelliker, sold a
supplementary electric fan to put in front of the radiator, but I have no
room because my car has an air conditioned set by Diavia which needs its own
radiator.
So, in summer 2003 I decided to install an hydraulic vessel( approx. a pair
of liters ) in the corner of the engine bay and to connect it to the
radiator with two pipes. Temperature on the inside termometer dropped down,
and it worked well. I think the mechanic removed also the thermostat, but I
can' t be sure.

In every case, the mechanic says that the TC fan is always working,
independently from the temperature of the thermostat, so a micro -
circulation of cold water from the vessel, around the termostat, shouldn' t
prevent the fan from switching on and working.

He was right and - in my case - it was a good solution.

Try and let me know.

Best regards, gianluca.

I am trying to figure out the cause of a high temperature reading on a 1968
Rover 2000TC. A friend of mine just purchased a 1968 Rover 2000 TC. Before
he got a chance to drive the car, he discovered that the water pump was
leaking and had to be replaced. After replacing the water pump, the car's
temperature gauge reads in the middle of the red. He removed the thermostat
and it still was in the red. Thinking that it was a bad temperature sender,
he measured the temperature with an infrared thermometer and it read 93C,
which seems to be a number in the middle of the red. We are wondering what
is going on.

Does anyone know the expected operating temperature for the car? If the car
is running hot, does anyone have any advice on the next steps? Are these
cars prone to radiator problems?

Thanks,

Tony

Hi Rudiger,
These are Magstars, manufactured in the USA by
Kelsey-Hayes. Looks like a nice set.

Roverly,
Kent K.
