If the fuel is a bit down on octane (normal nowadays) you may need to run 4 - 5.
65mph is cruisy, not an issue.  HARD in Rover parlance is over 80mph.  Read their literature!

The timing set to the specified 6 degrees now, I'm not sure what we had 
before but my guess would be around 4 degrees. The thing that worries me is 
that we did travel around 600 miles on mostly highways at around 65 mph. I 
know that the compression is a little low to the book minimun, but I'm not 
sure if that's new or was that way already.

Thanks for the thoughts on the spark plugs, I'll be ordering some this week.
