[ROVERNET - UK] RE: rovernet Digest, Vol 42, Issue 35

Hi all,

I took a closer look at the P4 on EBay and Kent is right it is an older 75
badge on the grill. I also checked the VIN number and it is correct for a
1951. But they were still using the 8 bar grill with the center light.
So either the car had accident and they replaced the grill with a newer 75
grill or the VIN tag has been changed and this really is a 1952/53 model.

I am wondering if a Cyclops grill would fit a later 75? Does anyone know?

Update on Rover meet:

Steve Manwell and I have agreed to get together at an upcoming car show and
discuss some of the details for the Rover event. I have suggested that this
be a RSTCA event and it looks like Steve likes that idea. For dates I am
considering the first weekend in June 2007. This coincides with a British
car show called "British by the Sea" and thought that we could wind up our
meet with a show of colors on that first Sunday in June. I have contacted
the organizers and have put things into the works to see if they would be
willing to make the featured marquee "ROVER"

Lastly I have also extended an invitation to JR Wadhams (John) to come and
give a tech session and perhaps send some much needed parts over for
purchase at the event. John seems interested. We also discussed the
possibility of getting order ready for US Rover owners for group shipment
and pick up at the event.

More to come soon

Dirk

The first link should take you to a page with another link. Click on that
and you will get to the eBay action.

Thanks, Al. I finally got it to work. At first I thought
this was a car I tried to buy in Ohio last year, but after
reviewing the pictures of that car, I'm sure this is a
different one. The chassis number indicates a 1951, but
the grill shell is later. This one appears to have the
chrome headlamp doors like the early Cyclopes, but it is
definitely not that early since it has round instruments.
I have seen several later LHD cars with the chrome
headlight surrounds and wondered if the dealers didn't do
this to "dress the car up." There is no clear picture of
the bonnet badge, so can't tell if it is Cyclopes or not.
 Likewise for boot handle.

Roverly,
Kent K.

I made a priming tool for the SD1 type pump shafts from an old bottle
jack handle.

It's also best to make sure you're using 20/50 oil in the sump, as some
of the more modern alternatives can be a bit on the thin side.

Other (unlikely) causes of no pump pressure are blocked sump pick up
pipe filter or missing gasket between pick up pipe and the internal
block oil gallery.

A double thanks, Barry. Firstly, for getting a batch of the
plates made, and secondly for clearing up the mystery of where they
originated. I did indeed get mine from Ruth at ABC. No doubt she
explained it all at the time.
It is good to know that you still have a few left. When they
are gone, what then?

>Hi Andrew,

I have to admit that I'm intrigued by a Vanden Plas SD1 as well,
particularly if you have the parts to convert it to a left hand drive...
right hand drive can be a novelty in the North American market, but in
practical terms can be a bit fussy when driving those North American
highways and byways!

I'm in British Columbia so importing wouldn't be an issue. You don't know
of anything that would cause it to fail a provincial inspection? At this
point I'm probably just curious, but you never know! I'll give you a call.
