It's also worth remembering that, in general, high crankcase pressures 
in the Rover V8 may not be due to gases getting past the rings at all if 
the cylinder heads are leaking into the valley area due to a bad seal at 
the head gaskets. Remember that the cylinder head bolts must not be 
torqued to the original settings that are in the workshop manual. If the 
heads were off and someone installed them per the directions in the 
workshop manual, they WILL leak into the valley and pressurize the 
crankcase thereby forcing oil and oil vapors out.
