[ROVERNET - UK] 2000TC Oil Filter Numbers

The Ford, PH8A Fram number, has NO anti-drain back valve on the Discharge
side of the filter only on the intake side. When Rover 2000 and 2200,
engine is stopped the oil in the Ford type filter will drain in to the
engine. After about five minutes the oil filter will be almost empty.
This is not too good on an engine that has been sitting for about thirty
days. Look in the factory work shop manual page 1B, note the built in
stand pipe. The Haynes manual on page 37 also shows the oil flow but not
as detailed as the factory manual. I would never buy a 2000 that had a
Ford type oil filter on it. Also, for you MGB types look at the 1971 on
with the inverted spin on filter. It has a stand pipe built into the
filter head, so a Ford type filter will work ok. Press on.

Thanks! FWIW, the guy @ NAPA here in Columbia said the 1970 TC filter
(latest year shown) is the same as a Ford filter.

Hi Glen,

NAPA # 1806 and Car Quest 85806 are the easiest to find as most stores have
a few in stock or can order one or two for you over night. WIX 51806,
Baldwin BT 216 the best filter of the lot, AC 939, Perkins 2654403 and Fram
PH 2821 the worst of the lot, also work but are hard to find. If you do
find a source you may have to order a case to get to get them. Bring lots
of money. Remember the 2000 engine does not have an anti-drain back pipe so
we are stuck with this odd ball oil filter that are required for some
models of Caterpillar and Perkins engines. Have fun. jb
