[ROVERNET - UK] noise from underneath

I think you are probably right. My car was also relatively low mileage 
(not as low as yours) but it had been sitting in a barn for years. The 
parts I swapped in were from another car with similar mileage. Why one 
set would be good and the other bad, I have no explanation.
