[ROVERNET - UK] P6 Front Suspension

I'm not sure that I really have a question but more like looking for some
thoughts/experience/opinions on the top link assembly for the P6 suspension.
I managed to rebush all the front suspension links and install new ball
joints but was unable to remove the springs.  As a result the original
bushes are still in place for the top link assembly, as well as the rubber
cushion and bump stop for the springs themselves.

Now when I drive the car I am feeling/hearing a sort of heavy 'clunking'
noise on occasion from the front end.  The top link bushes are complete and
still in place but seem to be cracked.  I am wondering if those old bushes
could be a source of my problem.  Has anyone had any problems with this area
of the front suspension?  What were the symptoms?

Sorry for such a nebulous, rambling query but before I start tearing into
the hardware, I want to benefit from the accumulated knowledge of the
Rovernet world:-)  Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
