Hmmm. I ones I've tried to file seemed to be hardened and I had to
resort to a small stone slip. But that was also years ago, so things
may be a bit hazy.
But in answer to the original poster, just resharpening the pawl does
work, as long as you don't remove more than maybe 0.030" or so.
