Paul, sorry to hear about your casualties.
1)The problem could also be the regulator. The workshop manual has a good 
section on troubleshooting both but you will need a voltmeter.
2) There are probably enough old P6's around that you can get the speedo 
angle drive. Are you saying you taxed the drive with excessively high 
3) The only sure way is with a pressure gauge. Don't know what the specs are 
but it should certainly be above 5psi at idle. It'll be in the manual. Most 
oil lights come on at around 5 psi. It could also be the sender but you 
probably already know that.
