My diabolical XJ12C did this same thing.

Jaguar had designed the car with the electrinic ignition module between 
the cylinders -- one of the hotter parts of the engine.

Relocating this module to a cooler spot in the engine compartment (and 
swapping it for a non-Lucas ignition) cured my problem.
