Why did you pull out the half shafts...The assembly does come out easily 
without needing to do that ?? I don't have the workshop manual in front of 
me right now but I don't think they require that you do that either. As to 
inspect the general condition...LOL..try a good light.
  I've removed the assembly over a pit and another time ..up on blocks...

 Don't take me wrong for asking...but I just couldn't figure out why you did 
all the extra work.
