Hi Trevor,

Thanks for your advice, and darn, I got it wrong!!  Clearly, I shall have to
do some more research on this subject.

So the Rover 2000 owners could potentially gain a benfit from a 3500 diff?
Is that correct in theory?

You are heading in the wrong direction!

To reduce engine speed for a given road speed you need a gear set with a
smaller number, not a bigger one.

A car with a 4.00:1 axle ration will need more engine revs for a given road
speed than one fitted with a 3.00:1 set.
