[ROVERNET - UK] Tuning TC carbs

Fritz,
I have removed and refitted a gearbox that way.
However, Paul's observation I share.
Yes, you don't have to lift the engine if you don't
have a hoist. However. without a hoist you are
balancing the engine, without bolts, on the top of the
two engine mounts. Be sure to have a spare garage
jack to place under the oil sump for safety.

Having to pull off the transmission and balance it on
my chest util I rolled over and let it slide off was
not a joyful experience. (Can you imagine Rover
writing *that* into a workshop manual :-))

I went back to the recommended method because after
removing all the bits to rotate the engine, anyway,
there was not much more just to lift it all out. Safer
- too.

So,...... yes, it can be done. However, there is a
lot to be said for the old-fashioned way of yarding it
all out as engine/gearbox. At least then, you can
tidy the engine compartment, clean and paint the
master cylinders, and freshen up the paint/undercoat
on the lower half of the compartment.

Eric
