Hi Paul,
It's a long, long story. One of my friends bought a
little plot at Medina, Texas, back in 1968. It's only
about ten acres, but it has a 15-20 mile view of the
Medina River valley and surrounding hills (what is known
as the Texas Hill Country). He is an MG addict and stores
his parts cars, mostly MGA's and MGB's out there. About
ten years ago he started letting me store my parts cars
out there as well. I told him that if he ever wanted to
sell the place, he should let me know. He called last
fall and said he wanted to sell. I told him that the only
way a real estate deal could work between friends was for
him to set a price and I would say yes or no...no
negotiations. I also told him that he could keep his
stuff out there if I bought the place, that I would build
the shop and give him some space so he could work indoors
or store stuff. He made his price and I accepted.
There's a small cabin out there and the new shop will be
about 20m x 13m (60'x40').
In order to pay cash, I had to sell the tree farm in
Arkansas. My wife said that if I got my place in the
country, she wanted her place in the city, so we are
building a house in San Antonio out by Sea World of Texas.
The two places are about forty miles apart by road. She
wants to move into her place as soon as possible, but I
still have a year before I could retire at the soonest.
That means that I will move somewhere in June, but the
United Methodist Church will determine where...somewhere
between Fort Worth and Brownsville-could be one hell of a
cummute. When the shop at Medina is finished, I will need
to move cars and parts from Sterling City to Medina, a
distance of about 280 miles. I will be moving eight cars
and several tons of parts, the less the better. Some of
the parts cars will have to stay out on the ranch in
Sterling. Richard Elliot is beside himself thinking that
these cars will go to waste. He particulary mourns the
totally rust free P6 base unit (certainly no rarity to
folks in Oz). I have two others at Medina that are about
as good.
What all this means for Rovernetters is that you have an
open invitation to visit San Antonio, a lovely and
culturally interesting tourist attraction. I have stayed
with many of you over the past years and I hope that you
will let me reciprocate. The new house will be finished in
October and has four bedrooms, so there's plenty of space
and it's only two blocks from the billiards hall, fitness
center, and indoor swimming pool. My plan is to start a
worship service in the billiards hall or right next door.
I don't think the Bishop will let me serve beer, though.
Please limit your stay:-)
Roverecreationally,
Kent K.
