I agree -- just use the label. Switching over the generator is easy - just involves sparking one of the wires against the case. I have instructions somewhere . . . .

I know that some of the electronic ignition units (i.e, Pertronix Ignitors) are polarity sensitive.

Yes, leave it as it is, the car will not rust as quick with positive ground. 
Put a label on the battery cover like I have.
